anima is the soul, while animus is the mind. de is a preposition which takes the ablative case and can mean out of, away from, about, concerning, according to, and many other things, thus: lead my soul out of tribulation. It is a worthwhile exercise to open a good Latin / English dictionary and look up one preposition each week and examine all the different meanings it can have.
