Monday Compline: The Reading or Lectio Brevis

1 Th 5, 9-10

God has placed us in acquisition of salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us, so that whether we keep watch or whether we sleep, together with Him we shall live.

This is the reading for Monday Compline, called the Lectio Brevis or short reading. It is proclaimed with no introduction (“A reading from..”) and no conclusion (“The Word of the Lord”). With the exception of solemnities, this reading is proclaimed invariably each Monday of the year.
